Democrats’ tax bill moves toward vote in US Senate.

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

MAY BE the elitist Congress should do something Obama isn’t! Work on helping business so that they can create jobs for Americans instead of making people look for handouts.

WASHINGTON
Tue, Jun 8 2010WASHINGTON June 14 (Reuters) – A Democratic plan to extend benefits for the jobless that would also more than double the tax rate for investment fund managers will likely get its first test on Wednesday in the U.S. Senate.

Majority Leader Harry Reid on Monday moved toward an initial vote on a $126 billion bill to extend unemployment insurance that ran out last month for hundreds of thousands of out-of-work Americans and renew a set of popular business tax breaks.
Under Senate rules, the vote on whether to limit debate on the legislation will likely occur Wednesday. Sixty votes are needed out of the 100-member Senate.

Complaints by fiscally conservative Democrats about the plan’s price tag and opposition by some Democrats to the investment fund manager tax has stalled the proposal.
According to several lobbyists, the majority Democrats remain shy of the 60 votes necessary. They need to attract as least one Republican plus keep all of the 59 votes they generally hold in the chamber.
Over the next 10 years, the Senate proposal would increase direct spending by $126 billion and add $22 billion in funding to prevent a 21 percent payment cut to doctors in the Medicare program, the Congressional Budget Office estimated.
The total package adds about $80 billion to the deficit over that period, according to CBO.
The legislation’s so-called carried interest tax proposal would require fund managers to pay the much higher ordinary income tax rate on a majority of their income from managing investors’ money.
The Senate version would tax 65 percent of fund managers’ income at the higher rate. A tougher House version would tax 75 percent at ordinary income rates.
Currently, they only pay a 15 percent capital gains tax rate on this income, while ordinary income is taxed at a maximum of 35 percent. The top tax rate is set to rise to 39.6 percent in 2011, the year this legislation would take effect.
Republicans have offered a stripped-down alternative that would extend unemployment insurance for 30 days, but excludes the controversial tax-raising provisions. It also excludes a provision extending tax-exempt Build America Bonds, created in the stimulus plan last year.

Owens Breaks 4 Campaign Promises in first hour in Congress

GOUVERNEUR, NY – Congressman-elect Bill Owens was sworn in at noon today.Owens indicated in a press release released shortly afterwards that he was now in favor of the the “Affordable Healthcare for America Act” bill in direct contrast to his earlier position during the election campaign.

According to Politico.com, Mr. Owens assured voters that he felt the public option had no place in the health care reform bill.  Contrary to that position, Mr. Owens now indicates that he intends to vote in favor of the bill even though it now contains a public option.

UPDATED: A spokesman for Congressman Owens indicated correctly that Mr. Owens had recanted his solid position against public option later in the campaign, clarifying that he did not wish public option to be a ‘litmus test’ for the Health Reform bill and that on Oct. 30th, several days prior to the election, in a debate had stated that he generally supported the public option as it was now written (at that time.)

Mr. Owens also indicated during his campaign that he was firmly opposed to cutting Medicare benefits, taxing health care benefits, and increased taxes on the middle class in any way as you can see clearly in the screenshot below, taken directly from Mr. Owens’ campaign website.

The House Health reform bill contains sections that cut Medicare benefits, tax existing health care benefits, and increases taxes on the middle class, yet Mr. Owens stated today that he will now vote in favor of those things contrary to what he had promised the voters of NY’s 23rd Congressional District that he would vote against.

Mr. Owens indicated in his press release today that “This legislation will reform the insurance industry and provide increased access to affordable healthcare without taxing healthcare benefits, cutting Medicare benefits or raising taxes on the middle class, and that is exactly the direction we need to go.”

WHERE are OURS jobs going?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Where are the JOBS this Washington group of elitist have continued to promise all American? Isn’t it time the Socialist left Democratic Socialist party come clean with the American public.  Government can not create jobs but can DESTROY them!!

August with the unemployment rate increasing to 9.7 percent, the highest level since the summer of 1983. The unemployment rate for men was 10.1 percent, far exceeding the 7.6 percent unemployment rate for women. While 216,000 people lost jobs, this was the least amount of lost jobs of the year and we are suppose to think that is good news!!! Tell those 216k people the good news.  Why not report the real figure of about 17%.

Five states posted jobless rates above 12% in August, according to federal data released Friday.

1)Michigan led the nation in unemployment, with a rate of 15.2%,

 2)Nevada was  at 13.2%

 3)Rhode Island was  at 12.8%.

Tied 4/5th) California and Oregon each with unemployment at 12.2%.

Why are the Washington elite NOT  working to help business to create jobs?? We need to hear from the government of Obama why it has not helped the business community with the exception of favored huge businesses that are to big to fail in the words of Washington.

Why is Washington not concentrating on the economy.  Other items continue to receive ALL the attention and NOT BUSINESS and JOBS!

We have a bunch of elitist sitting back trying to change the fundamental foundation of our capitalist country with socialist reforms while letting the economy collapse and the people suffer

We need to ask if the drive and obsession to bring socialized medical lack of care is behind the HUGE job loses we continue to see. Is the Washington agenda for socialized healthcare helped with ever job loss??  Is this the real reason Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are selling out seniors and the American middle and lower economic classes????

WHAT are the Republicans doing about the economy? Where is the republican plan to bring back business and jobs? It is time for the Republicans to stop whinnying about what they can NOT do and start to provide solutions!! America needs a plan to bring back support for Business that will lead the recovery and provide JOBS for the American people! ENOUGH whinnying and finger pointing, The people need to see results of a recovering CAPITALIST economy NOW.

CONSERVATIVE Republican, Democrats and Independents are watching and will  no longer tolerate Elitist incompetence and attempts to destroy OUR Country in Washington and State governments.

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
