With the national average price for a gallon of gas approaching $3.90, you’d think that Washington would be doing everything it could to ease the price and the impact on your wallet. Well, you’d be wrong.
Believe it or not, Harry Reid’s tax-and-spend gaggle in the Senate are responding to soaring gas prices by, you guessed it, trying to raise taxes on oil and gas companies. Of course, higher taxes mean higher prices; it’s just common sense. But that’s something in short supply in the Senate these days.
The bill is S. 2204, offered by Senator Menendez from New Jersey. Not only does it seek to jack up taxes on oil and gas when we can least afford it, but it also handpicks a range of so-called green technologies for special tax breaks. This bill tries to prop them all up: electric cars, cellulosic biofuels, wind, ethanol blender pumps, and on and on.
The Senate will be voting on the bill this week. So, take action today and send your senators a simple message: stop trying to use the tax code to prop up your friends and attack your political enemies!
Reid Accuses Rubio of Not Being Hispanic Enough
Once again, America should pause to thank the good people of Nevada for inflicting Harry Reid upon the nation. Today the Senate Majority Leader is under fire for attacking Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and suggesting that he’s insufficiently Hispanic.
The occasion of Reid’s remarks was Rubio’s opposition to President Obama’s choice for ambassador to El Salvador, Maria Carmen Aponte. Aponte was a recess appointment, made back when our unitary Executive still felt obliged to actually wait for Congress to recess before making such appointments. She was up for a confirmation vote this year, but Rubio voted against her.
One of his reasons for doing so was a desire to make the Administration condemn the Sandinista regime in Nicaragua for vote fraud. (Yes, the Sandinistas are back.) For some reason, the Obama crew had been reluctant to make the blindingly obvious observation that the Sandinistas rigged the recent elections. They did it the old-fashioned way, by using thugs to clear out opposition poll watchers, then stuffing an extra 150,000 votes into the ballot boxes. Ballots are the only thing communists are good at manufacturing.
Reid, Dems secretly push another internet control bill.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, following a recent anti-piracy legislative debacle with SOPA and PIPA, will lead his second effort of 2012 to push Internet-regulating legislation, this time in the form of a new cybersecurity bill. The expected bill is the latest attempt by the Democrats to broadly expand the authority of executive branch agencies over the Internet.
Details about the bill remain shrouded in secrecy. Clues available to the public suggest that the bill might be stronger than President Barack Obama’s cybersecurity proposal, which was released in May 2011. Reid said that he would bring the bill — expected to come out of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, chaired by Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman — to the floor during the first Senate work period of 2012.
A classified meeting behind closed doors in October 2011 between key Senate committee leaders with jurisdiction over cybersecurity and White House officials, took place at the request of the Obama administration. Lieberman, in an interview with The Hill in October, said that past Senate cybersecurity bills were considerably stronger than the White House proposal.

Sen. Harry Reid (D- Nev). In 2004 and 2005, the Senate majority leader secured $21.5 million to build a bridge over the Colorado River, linking the gambling resort town of Laughlin, Nev., with Bullhead City, Ariz. Reid owns 160 acres of undeveloped land in Bullhead City.

Tuesday marked 1,000 days since Senate Democrats have passed a budget. The past three years have been a reckless spending spree that added $4.5 trillion in new debt to our tab and enabled our overall debt to surpass $15 trillion.
Rubio: “The Majority Leader in the Senate, Harry Reid, said it would be ‘foolish’ to pass a budget. I disagree. As we mark the 1,000th day since Senate Democrats have passed a budget – a fundamental element of governing – it is clear that those in Washington worrying more about their next reelection than making the tough choices to get our nation on a sustainable fiscal path are the ones being foolish.”
Obama says nation needs ‘bold action’ from Congress on jobs but is he confused?
Reporting from Washington — Even as he takes a series of executive actions to juice the economy, President Obama said Wednesday that he alone can’t solve the unemployment crisis and he needs Congress to spend money on major new programs to dent the jobless rate.
In recent weeks, Obama has been trying to bypass Congress, using his own executive authority to reduce student loan payments, help struggling homeowners refinance their loans and ease the shortage in prescription drugs. He has been acting under a new battle cry: “We can’t wait.”
But in an appearance at a bridge connecting northern Virginia to Washington, D.C., Obama conceded that his strategy has limitations. On his own, he can’t create enough jobs to find work for the 14 million unemployed, he said.

The Obama campaign sent out an email today asking supporters to urge Congress to at least vote on the president’s jobs bill almost immediately after Democratic majority leader Harry Reid blocked a vote on the bill in the Senate.
On the Senate floor today, Republican leader Mitch McConnell asked for unanimous consent to proceed on voting on the bill. Reid, who has struggled to find enough votes for the bill in the Democratic caucus, objected to the motion and killed the opportunity for a vote.
About ten minutes later, Jim Messina, Obama’s 2012 campaign manager, emailed this message to supporters:
