Insider Trading Is Legal For Members Of Congress – And They Refuse To Pass A Law That Would Change That.

Is insider trading wrong? Most Americans would say that it is. In fact, some very wealthy and very prominent Americans (including Martha Stewart) have gone to prison for it. It just is not right for those with inside information that is not generally available to the public to make huge profits in the stock market by making key trades based on that information. But there is one group, members of the U.S. Congress, that can do all the insider trading they want and get away with it. That is because insider trading is perfectly legal for members of Congress. Yes, you read that correctly. So how would that work? Well, for example, a member of Congress may know that a law that is about to be proposed would have a very positive effect on a particular company and could buy up a ton of stock in that company a few days before that law is introduced. Isn’t that wrong? Of course. Is there any law against it? Not at all.

You would think that some of the more ethical members of Congress would want to close this glaring loophole, but it just isn’t happening. Legislation has been introduced from time to time that would end this practice, but it has gotten very, very little support. The Wall Street Journal recently published an article about this issue which described the current situation this way….

“A few lawmakers proposed a bill that would prevent members and employees of Congress from trading securities based on nonpublic information they obtain. The legislation has languished since 2006.”

But even though insider trading is legal for members of Congress, they would never take advantage of the situation, would they?

Well, there is at least one study that seems to indicate that members of the U.S. Congress have been much more successful in the U.S. stock market than most members of the general public….

“A 2004 study of the results of stock trading by United States Senators during the 1990s found that that senators on average beat the market by 12% a year. In sharp contrast, U.S. households on average underperformed the market by 1.4% a year and even corporate insiders on average beat the market by only about 6% a year during that period. A reasonable inference is that some Senators had access to – and were using – material nonpublic information about the companies in whose stock they trade.”

But it isn’t just the members of Congress themselves that are using inside information to do well in the stock market. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, a significant number of Congressional staffers have also been involved in some questionable dealings….

“At least 72 aides on both sides of the aisle traded shares of companies that their bosses help oversee, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of more than 3,000 disclosure forms covering trading activity by Capitol Hill staffers for 2008 and 2009.”

The Wall Street Journal goes on to describe example after example of Congressional staff members that have made large profits from trades that could have been influenced by inside knowledge.

But should we be surprised?

The truth is that Congress exempts themselves from the laws that they pass on a regular basis.

Integrity is in real short supply up on Capitol Hill.

Is it any wonder that the approval rating for the U.S. Congress has been hovering around 20 percent?

Just think about that.

Approximately 80 percent of the American people are dissatisfied with Congress.

Our system of government is deeply corrupt and deeply broken.

Watch Nancy Pelosi not answer the question.

When Nancy Pelosi says your clueless it is time for concern because NO one knows more about being clueless than Nancy Pelosi

Should Scott Brown start to worry? When Nancy Pelosi says your clueless it is time for concern because NO one knows more about being clueless than Nancy Pelosi!.

Pelosi: Brown Wisecrack Show He’s Clueless

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that Sen. Scott Brown’s wisecrack about Democratic rival Elizabeth Warren shows he is clueless about women.

During a Democratic primary debate Tuesday, Warren was asked about Brown’s decision to pose nude in a magazine during law school. Asked how she paid for college, Warren said she kept her clothes on.

“Thank God,” Brown laughed during a radio interview about the comment afterward. He later said he was joking.

Nonetheless, Pelosi said Brown should take that comment back.

“I thought it spoke volumes about how clueless Sen. Brown is,” the California Democrat said on ABC’s “This Week.” ”It really spoke volumes about, really, disrespect for women he may not even realize.” Really, may be it speaks

Democrats hope to oust Brown from the Senate seat once held by Ted Kennedy.

The freshman senator has defended his decision to pose for the magazine, saying modeling was his best opportunity to pay for school.

“Let them throw stones. I did what I had to do,” Brown added. “But not for having that opportunity I never would have been able to pay for school.”

Brown attended Tufts University and Boston College Law School, both private universities. Warren, a Harvard law professor and consumer advocate, attended the University of Houston and received a law degree from Rutgers University, both of which are public schools.

Warren, speaking to reporters Thursday afternoon, tried to take Brown’s remark in stride.

“I’ll survive a few jabs from Scott Brown over my appearance,” she said.

Really, Will you survive being an anti American Socialist?? That is the question.

Semper Fi

Last Tuesday, as President Obama got off the helicopter in front of the White House, he was carrying a baby piglet under each arm. The squared away Marine guard snaps to attention, salutes and says: “Nice pigs, sir!”
The President replies “These are not pigs; these are authentic Arkansas Razorback Hogs. I got one for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and I got one for Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi.”
The squared away Marine again snaps to attention, salutes and says, “Excellent trade, sir!”

Extreme?? The pot calling the kettle black.

Democrats call it a “jobs bill” , just another bailout of the STATES that can’t pay for what they are spending.

Monday, August 9th, 2010

A bailout is an act of giving capital to a government of a state or government controlled company in danger of failing in an attempt to save it from bankruptcy.

When you say Obama you say BAILOUT.

Lawmakers Called Back to Washington

Steve Centanni | August 08, 2010
House Republicans on Sunday doubled down on their opposition to Democrats’ stimulus spending as their colleagues prepared to return to Washington from recess this week to vote on a $26 billion aid package.

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” House Minority Leader John Boehner claimed, “The American people are screaming at the tops of their lungs to Washington, stop. Stop the spending, stop the job killing policies and yet the democrats from Washington refuse to listen.”

Boehner even suggested pulling the plug on the stimulus bill altogether to prevent the expenditure of the estimated $400- to 500-billion which hasn’t yet been spent.

And Republican Indiana Rep. Mike Pence pointed a finger at what he sees as heavy-handed Democratic tactics. “This has been the my way or the highway administration from the stimulus bill forward,” said Pence on “Meet the Press.” “Democrats on Capitol Hill and in this administration have slammed the door on republican ideas, have slammed the door on bipartisan proposals.”

Re-convening the House during a recess is nothing new. It’s happened several times, including two years ago for the auto bailout and in 2005 for Hurricane Katrina relief.

A final House vote on the state aid bill is expected Tuesday.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Wednesday that the House will reconvene for a vote on the $26 billion state aid bill aimed at saving the jobs of teachers and other public employees, while giving the states a helping hand with Medicaid.

The bill’s supporters say the funds, part of the $682 billion stimulus package, will save at least 140,000 teachers from being laid off.

President Obama said Friday, “Speaker Pelosi says she’s going to bring the House back in session to pass this bill, and as soon as they do I’m ready to sign it into law.”

The House had adjourned without expecting they’d get a chance to extend this state aid, which expires at the end of the year. But last week the Senate was able to win the support of Maine’s two moderate Republicans, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, giving Democrats the votes they needed to pass the legislation. That meant the House would have to return to give its approval.

Democrats call it a “jobs bill” and will tout its benefits on the campaign trail. Republicans characterize it as more wasteful government spending. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell addressed the timing of the vote by insisting, “This bill is a brazen attempt to funnel more money to public employee unions before an election at a moment of record deficits and debt.”

More government spending just masking the problem.

Here is a great article that shows why the American taxpayer continues to be screwed by the Democratic Socialist elitist in congress.

Writing on National Review Online’s The Corner, Lindsey Burke explains how much taxpayers will be paying for each teaching job if Congress passes its new education bailout: $100,000 per teaching job. This despite the fact that the average teacher’s salary is $54,000. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is bringing lawmakers back from their summer recess to vote on the bill, which will benefit the top two teachers unions, the NEA and the AFT, to the tune of about $24 million dollars in dues.

Why not let each state get their budget in order. At some point the states have to start paying their own bills. START NOW and let the TAXPAYERS GO!

CBS’s Harry Smith must have missed the name TRhe elitist have been calling the TEA party members.

Commiserating with Obama About Talk Radio’s “Enmity”

“I’ve been spending time out and about, listening to talk radio. The kindest of terms you’re sometimes referred to, out in America, is a ‘socialist.’ The worst of which I’ve heard is called a ‘Nazi.’ Are you aware of the level of enmity that crosses the airwaves and that people have made part of their daily conversation about you?”
— CBS’s Harry Smith to President Obama in an interview excerpt shown on The Early Show, April 2.

CONGRESSIONAL SPENDING WASTE IN COPENHAGEN; 21 MEMBERS, ALL-EXPENSES PAID
Mon Jan 11 2010 15:08:56 ET

An exclusive report that will air tonight on CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC reveals the alarmingly high number of members of Congress who got an all-expense paid trip to Denmark — on your dime!

An embargoed script from Sharyl Attkisson’s report:

Few would argue with the US having a presence at the Copenhagen Climate Summit.

NATS OBAMA I’M ALWAYS HOPEFUL

(VO: Denmark beauty shot)

But wait until you hear what we found about how many in Congress got all-expense paid trips to Denmark… on your dime.

(VO)

Our camera spotted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the summit. She called the shots on who got to go.

That’s House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

And there’s the embattled Chairman of the Tax Committee Charles Rangel.

“NATS: YOU TAKIN’ CARE OF MR. RANGEL? HE SURE IS!”

(VO)

They were joined by 17 colleagues from both parties: Democrats: Waxman, Miller, Markey, Gordon, Levin, Blumenauer, DeGette, Inslee, Ryan, Butterfield, Cleaver, Giffords, and Republicans: Barton, Upton, Moore Capito, Sullivan, Blackburn.

(ATTKISSON STANDUP)

And that’s not the half of it. But finding out more was a bit like trying to get the keys to Ft. Knox. Many referred us to Speaker Pelosi who wouldn’t agree to an interview, give cost estimates or even tell us where they all stayed. Her office said it “will comply with disclosure requirements.”

(VO)

Senator Inhofe is one of the few who provided us any detail. He attended the summit on his own for just a few hours, to give an “opposing view.”

(SOT-INHOFE)

They’re going because it’s the biggest party of the year. The worst thing that happened there is they ran out of caviar.

(VO: JETS)

(MOVED) Our investigation found that the House delegation was so large, it needed three military jets: two 737′s and a Gulfstream Five. Up to 64 passengers — travelling in luxurious comfort.

(VO)

Add Senators and staff, most of whom flew commercial, and we counted at least 101 Congress-related attendees. All for a summit that failed to deliver a global climate deal.

(VO)

As a perk, some took spouses, since they could snag an open seat on a military jet or share a room at no extra cost to taxpayers.

(FLASH THRU VIDEO AT COPENHAGEN)

That’s Congresswoman Giffords holding her husband’s hand.

Moore Capito and her husband.

Markey took his wife – shown wearing red – (Susan Blumenthal) as did Sensenbrenner (Cheryl).

Congressman Barton– a climate change skeptic– even brought along his daughter, not shown here.

(VO)

Until required filings are made in the coming weeks, we can only figure bits and pieces of the cost to you.

(GRAPHIC 1)

Three military jets at $57-hundred dollars an hour. ($5,740) Dozens flew commercial at up to two thousand dollars each.

More than 300 (321) hotel nights booked – the bulk at Copenhagen’s five-star Marriott.

Meals add tens of thousands more.

(VO)

Watchdog Steve Ellis wasn’t against some sort of US presence but…considering the record deficit…

(SOT-STEVE ELLIS, TAXPAYERS FOR COMMON SENSE check)

7:22:48 EVERY PENNY COUNTS. CONGRESS SHOULD BE SHAKIN’ THE COUCH CUSHIONS LOOKING FOR CHANGE, RATHER THAN SPENDING CASH FOR EVERYBODY TO GO TO COPENHAGEN. 23:00

(ATTKISSON STANDUP)

Nobody we asked would defend the super-sized Congressional presence on camera. One Democrat said it showed the world the US is serious about climate change.

(GRAPHIC: MILITARY JET WITH SMOKE AND FIGURES) And all those attendees who went to the summit rather than hooking up by teleconference? They produced enough climate-stunting carbon dioxide to fill 10,000 Olympic swimming pools. (40,500 tonnes/source: UN Framework Convention on Climate Change)

(VO: US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations/US Senators and Staff Only) Which means even if Congress didn’t get a global agreement…

00:03:01 “EXCUSE ME” CRASH! (SLAMS DOOR on CAMERA)

… they left an indelible footprint all the same. Sharyl Attkisson, CBS News, Washington.

Elitist Nancy Pelosi just doesn’t get it!

US House approves $155 billion jobs bill

Wed Dec 16, 2009 7:06pm EST

WASHINGTON, Dec 16 (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a $155 billion measure that seeks to create jobs and blunt the impact of the worst recession since the 1930s. By a vote of 217 to 212, the House approved additional spending for “shovel-ready” construction projects and money to avoid layoffs of teachers, police and other public employees.  The Senate is expected to consider the measure early next year.

Not even all the Democratic socialist would vote for this pig feast. This is not going to create any more jobs than the last government spending spree.  It is time to STOP SPENDING money on pork and give business what they and the American people need: TAX CUTS!  LESS GOVERNMENT SPENDING!
