Large China oil spill threatens sea life, water

BEIJING – China’s largest reported oil spill emptied beaches along the Yellow Sea as its size doubled Wednesday, while cleanup efforts included straw mats and frazzled workers with little more than rubber gloves.

An official warned the spill posed a “severe threat” to sea life and water quality as China’s latest environmental crisis spread off the shores of Dalian, once named China’s most livable city.

One cleanup worker has drowned, his body coated in crude.

“I’ve been to a few bays today and discovered they were almost entirely covered with dark oil,” said Zhong Yu with environmental group Greenpeace China, who spent the day on a boat inspecting the spill.

“The oil is half-solid and half liquid and is as sticky as asphalt,” she told The Associated Press by telephone.

The oil had spread over 165 square miles (430 square kilometers) of water five days since a pipeline at the busy northeastern port exploded, hurting oil shipments from part of China’s strategic oil reserves to the rest of the country. Shipments remained reduced Wednesday.

Let us hope that China reacts faster than the Obama administration.

The Obama administration’s plan to contain oil leaking from a deepwater pipeline could be sucking up as much as 90 percent of the spewing oil by the end of June.
White House adviser David Axelrod, appearing on several network television shows on Sunday, declined to say whether the spill might be fully stopped by the end of the month.

He said the new cap installation could take up to 10 days—longer than BP officials have estimated.

Will the White house and The Obama ever get it right???

Why should they start now….

Is Ron Paul Right or should Obama just get more power.

Ron Paul : Why I Voted Against Giving Subpoena Power To Obama’s BP Commission! This is a congressional responsibility. Plus just look at the commission that The Obama has set up.

No one is saying BP is not responsible. Will this stacked commission look at the incompetent response of the U.S. government? Does anyone wonder why there is NO ONE with oil knowledge and background on this commission????

The identities of all 12 countries and international organizations were not immediately announced. One country was cited in the State Department statement — Japan, which is providing two high-speed skimmers and fire containment boom.

More than 30 countries and international organizations have offered to help with the spill. The State Department hasn’t indicated why some offers have been accepted and others have not.

Environmental movement a moment of hypocrites .

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

As the greatest environmental catastrophe in U.S. history has played out on Obama’s watch, the environmental movement has essentially given him a pass — all but refusing to unleash any vocal criticism against the president even as the public has grown more frustrated by Obama’s performance.

About a dozen environmental groups took out a full page ad in the Washington Post Tuesday — not to fault Obama over the ecological catastrophe but to thank him for putting on hold an Alaska drilling project. “We deeply appreciate your decision. …” the ad says to Obama.

Had this been a real catastrophe like the smelt being saved at the expense of the poor people of California there would be all kinds of protest. But this is just oil, our future and the people of the Gulf Coast.

Where is Gov Crist hiding? The oil is coming to Florida.

Charlie Crist is not seen doing anything to be proactive with the oild spill. Florida Sen. LeMieux is clearly leading the fight for Florida.
