We thank Rep Tom Rooney for his standing up for the people of Florida and trying to end the Libyan Civil War.

This response from Rep Tom Rooney shows us that the work of the people of Florida and the United States is NOT done. The House has yet to pass a bill to end the funding Of the Failed Warmonger President Obama. This incompetent President told the people His war in Libya would last a couple days. We are still wasting OUR money on this Civil War. The United States Has No Business spending any money or using and planes to support one side over another in this Civial War because the United Nations and the Arab League approved. WHY NOT THE CONGRESS OF THE COUNTRY YOU SUPPOSE TO BE PRESIDENT OF!!!
#### ####### ######
Response from Rep Rooney:

Thank you for contacting me in regards to the ongoing situation in Libya. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.

In April of this year, President Obama sought approval from the United Nations and the Arab League before imposing a “no-fly zone” in Libya, but failed to consult the United States Congress. Authorizing airstrikes with the prior understanding that such actions will likely engender full combat on the ground is a serious decision. By seeking U.N. approval and bypassing Congress, President Obama transferred authority that should rest in the people of the United States through their Congress to an international body.

Under President Obama’s instruction, the United States has committed its resources, including funding, to NATO operations. The US Armed Forces have committed air strikes and our intelligence community is actively involved in this fight. These actions are in direct violation of the War Powers Resolution, which requires by law the President to obtain Congressional authorization in order to engage US troops in long-term military operations.

On June 23, 2011, I introduced H.R. 2278, which states that no funds appropriated or available to the Department of Defense may be used for U.S. Armed Forces in support of the NATO operation in Libya, unless specifically authorized by law. The legislation made exceptions for funds used for search and rescue, intelligence, aerial refueling, and operational planning.

The U.S. Constitution affords Congress both the power of the purse and the ability to declare war and we must not cede that authority to the President or an international body like the United Nations. H.R. 2278 exercised both of those powers by blocking funds for the war in Libya unless the President receives Congressional authorization. Unfortunately, the bill did not pass in the House and President Obama continues to ignore the Constitution and dismiss the role of Congress and the people we represent.

As military operations in Libya continue, I hope President Obama will seek approval from the House of Representatives should he decide to commit further US recourses or combat troops, and moving forward, will respect the Constitution and the role of Congress.

Again, thank you for contacting me about this important issue. Hearing your opinions helps me better serve the 16th district of Florida. Please visit my website rooney.house.gov to sign up for email updates.

Sincerely,
Thomas J. Rooney
Member of Congress

Please contact Rep Rooney and let him know we want him to show some leadership on ending the United States involvment in the Civil WAR.

It is time for Florida seniors to ask why Bill Nelson is voting against SENIORS over and over again.
On the Motion to Table; Cut, Cap, and Balance Act of 2011 – Vote Agreed to (51-46, 3 Not Voting).

__Sen. Bill Nelson voted to approve the bill
__Sen. Bill Nelson voted to debate the bill and make changes to it
__Sen. Bill Nelson voted like a weasel to table or pretend the bill didn’t exist

In other words did Bill Nelson vote to work on solving the issue or vote to put SENIORS at risk of losing their checks?

Sen. Marco Rubio voted to do something about solving the problem.
In the House Rep. Tom Rooney voted to do something about the debt crisis also.

Ok, lets give the ANTI Senior citizen Sen. Nelson another look as may be that was just bad judgement.

How did Sen. Bill Nelson vote on the house budget passed months ago that would have delt with the debt crisis.

Oh he never voted on the budget because once again Bill Nelson and his anti Senior party refused to voted on the budget passed by the house and put seniors at risk. No debate, no counter offer, no budget as a response. But then the Democrats have been in control of the congress for 4 1/2 year and in control of the Presidency for 2 1/2 yrs. Bill Nelson and his party that was in complete and total control of the government never offered a budget as required by LAW.

WHY??????? Why Bill Nelson????

We are sure the workers at NASA wish Bill had given them the support they had given him.

House Votes Down Effort to Limit Libya Funding
By Jessica Brady
June 24, 2011,
President Barack Obama might have gotten the best outcome he could hope for from the House when the chamber refused to approve of U.S. involvement in Libya but stopped short of voting to limit funding for the operation.
A measure from Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) to restrict funding for military efforts in Libya was defeated, 180-238. That vote came just hours after the chamber rejected a resolution that would authorize military involvement in Libya for the next year.
It is time to stop funding The Obama WAR. It is time to cut off ALL foreign aid for the next 6 months. The HOUSE should start doing their job and make the Senate and President do their jobs. Lets see who is working for the people and who is working for the government

Additional Continuing Appropriations, 2011 – Vote Passed (271-158, 3 Not Voting)
The House passed this short-term continuing resolution funding government operations through April 8, 2011. The measure cuts $6 billion from the current budget. The Senate passed the resolution later in the week.
Rep. Tom Rooney voted YES

Why I Tom Rooney afraid to stand up and demand action is takes instead of caving in and becoming part of the American spending problem. Where is Toms promise to defund Obama care???

What is Tom Rooney doing about the Obama WAR!!!!! When does Comngress demand the President explain why he waged WAR without congress…. When does Tom Rooney stand up like a leader??? Maybe Tom is just another elitist RHINO.

Tom Rooney of Florida is doing something for the Seniors thrown under the bus by Obama.

On October 15, 2009, the Social Security Administration (SSA) officially announced that there will be no COLA for 2010. This decision was made using a price index formula to determine if there has been an actual increase in the cost of living. These days Americans are feeling the crunch in every aspect of their daily lives: electric bills are going up, health care premiums are on the rise – even the price of a gallon of milk can cause sticker shock. Clearly, there is a flaw in the formula that must be immediately addressed.

To that end, I cosponsored H.R. 2365, the Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers Act. Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR-04) introduced this bipartisan legislation which puts in place a more accurate formula to ensure senior’s actual costs are considered when determining the need for a COLA. Seniors need a pricing index that takes into account the unique goods and services they purchase, such as healthcare and prescription drugs, and H.R. 2365 does just that.

Additionally, I cosponsored a similar piece of legislation, H.R. 3691, The Seniors and Veterans Economic Stimulus (SAVES) Act of 2009, which proposes to use all unobligated funds from the economic stimulus package to provide seniors and veterans with the assistance they need. President Obama and his administration must recognize that our seniors and veterans need immediate relief and cannot afford to shoulder the burden of our struggling economy without a COLA increase from the federal government.

Many of you have pointed to the Congressional pay raises as an example of how out of touch those in Washington are with the people they represent. I could not agree more. As a freshman member of Congress I was appalled to learn that an automatic pay increase is included in the annual appropriations bills that fund the federal government. Members of Congress should not be awarded an automatic pay raise, especially when hard-working American families are suffering from record unemployment and a COLA increase is determined to be unnecessary. Those of us in Congress must make the same sacrifices that we ask of our constituents and should not even consider a pay raise until the federal deficit is addressed.

With this in mind I became an original cosponsor of the Stop the Congressional Pay-Raise Act (H.R. 156). This legislation was introduced by Representative Harry Mitchell (AZ-5) on January 6, 2009, and would prevent Members of Congress from receiving any automatic pay adjustment in 2010. This legislation was included in the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009 which prohibits the scheduled 2010 pay raise. I commit to you that I will continue to oppose the automatic pay increase and will work to have this language removed from appropriations bills.
